Community support was the key to the success of Jeneece Place, Victoria’s home away from home. Jeneece challenged the community to raise funds to not only build Jeneece Place, but for five years of operating costs. The result was awe-inspiring. The community was so supportive that enough was raised to build the home and cover operating costs for nearly a decade.
Construction costs including five years of operating costs total $7 million. Like Jeneece Place we are asking the community to rally behind Qʷalayu House. Your transformational gift will provide a safe and culturally welcoming home for North Island expectant moms and families with children to stay near the hospital.
In early 2021, we invited children and youth to submit artwork for the home. The response was overwhelming with more than 200 pieces of artwork submitted! Twenty-four original pieces are currently hanging in Q̓ʷalayu House for families to enjoy. Twelve of the beautiful pieces were chosen to create a 2022 calendar and matching set of blank note cards.
